HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Two teens died Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle they were traveling in on Interstate 85 went off the road at high speed and crashed into trees, troopers said.
Kelleigh E. Shropshire, 19, of Haw River, and Corena M. Johnson, 19, of Mebane, were both killed in the single-vehicle wreck, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. between exits 164 and 165.
Johnson was driving and was wearing a seat belt, troopers said. Shropshire was the passenger in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt.
The wreck was caused by speed, troopers said.
