The incident happened Thursday when the drug unit of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was conducting surveillance, officials said.

A white minivan then pulled into a parking space near the drug unit, deputies said in a news release.

“Officers observed what they believed to be illegal drug activity,” the release said.

When the pair got out of the minivan, deputies said they conducted a “probable cause search” of the vehicle and the suspects themselves.

“(The search) resulted in the seizure of numerous items of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia,” deputies said.

Leslie Brown Williams, 56, and Chance Taylor Williams, 22, both of Forehand Road in Pikeville were arrested.
