Woman sexually assaulted while running along Durham trail, police say

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A woman told police she was sexually assaulted in broad-daylight while on a Durham exercise trail over the weekend, according to police.

The incident occurred as the woman was running along the Ellerbe Creek Trail near Northgate Park around 3 p.m. Sunday, Durham police said in a news release.

A man on a bicycle rode by the woman, but then turned around, approached her and grabbed her buttocks, police said.

“The woman screamed and he rode away,” the news release said.

The suspect was wearing a gray or white hoodie, camouflaged pants and a backpack.

The man was described as between the ages of 18 and 20, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 150 to 160 pounds.
