MEBANE, N.C. (WNCN) — A Mebane woman is facing 24 charges in connection with an Alamance County fraud investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
Michele Rinaldi, 40, was arrested Thursday following an investigation that was initiated after a local accounting company found evidence that Rinaldi was stealing checks, according to the sheriff’s office.
Rinaldi has been charged with eight counts of felony larceny by employee, eight counts of felony uttering a forged instrument, and eight counts of felony obtain property by false pretense.
The company told investigators that it appeared she was stealing checks that had been entrusted to the company from three churches. The investigation revealed that the checks worth $9,625 were all forged and cashed by Rinaldi.
The sheriff’s office said that the suspect had only been an employee at the accounting business for a short period of time. Rinaldi also has charges pending in Guilford County for multiple counts of embezzlement, according to the sheriff’s office.
Rinaldi is being held in the Alamance County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.
