Wake County school board members are standing by their funding request from the county.
“We have no information that would indicate it is a credible threat,” school officials said in a statement.
Wake County Manager Jim Hartmann unveiled the $1.26 billion budget proposal during a meeting.
The town hall discussed charter schools and teacher pay and House Bill 13 – which address class sizes.
An Economic Policy Institute study says starting pay for the Class of 2017 is back up to where it was in 2007.
“The proposal, if it is adopted, would be catastrophic,” said Irv Joyner, a professor at N.C. Central.
