Homeless Man Killed By Train In Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Officials say a homeless man was killed by a train after he tripped and fell on the tracks early Thursday morning.

Officers responded to an accident involving a pedestrian and a train around 6:40 a.m. near the traffic circle on Ray Avenue.
 
Robert Earnest O'Neal, 41, was apparently trying to cross the tracks around 2 a.m. when he tripped and fell into the path of the train. According to officials, O'Neal was dragged by train for about 225 feet before both of his legs were completely severed.
 
O'Neal later died at the scene. Detectives and forensics units continue their investigation.
